Anna and Nene (Movie Star Junkies) phone it in from Treviso, Italy, about an hour from Venice. Some wonderful, wonderful music, despite kind of a mess of a show. Not necessarily the most auspicious live US radio debut: the phone connection sounds tenuous at best, Anna's a great sport despite the obvious language barrier, and I forget to turn off my mic once Anna starts singing at least once. But it's all worth if for the music, reverent Hank Williams worship in the proud lineage of Holly Golightly. They can't speak English, but they can play country better than any heartworn Southerner. Killer, less stripped down records on Rijapov, Fat Possum, and Sacred Bones.
