A dude and his uke: Dean Engle phones it in from Poughkeepsie, NY. Hard to believe he's been writing songs and playing the ukulele for not much more than a year-and-a-half. As of this date, this website has been under construction for around three years, and it has yet to learn a single instrument or release four free albums (four! free!). Anyway, this is songwriting of the highest, funn(i)est order, taking the uke way out of the novelty realm and into the realm of Real Storytelling. Not to mention Dean's creative playing and knack for melody, and Minor Constellations adds up to way more than the sum of its parts and influences. Not long ago, if you plugged 'Minor Constellations' into a search engine the Little Dipper would to come up before Dean's MySpace page. But then again, even Canis Minor is beating Ursa Minor in search engine rankings these days, so maybe people are just less interested in the Littler Dipper. Either way, Dean beats them both handily now.
