K Records founder and pioneer of OG indie pop Calvin Johnson phones it in from the KDVS lobby on July 4, while on a teeny tour with Joey Casio. (Joey was at the music director desk, checking his e-mail.) Nadav informed me, only after recording, that Calvin was the very first person he contacted at the inception of "Phoning It In." So it took six years of chasing him around the country, but we finally got him! He graciously answers my awkward questions about college radio and indie label life and sings a couple of Washington state-themed songs in that signature bass-boost voice of his.
