Marianne Nowottny phones it in from Jersey City, NJ. She bends music to her glorious will, with melodies that swoop and dip to underscore her enigmatic reflections, and a voice reminiscent of another well-known Marianne (Faithfull, that is). Ridiculously prolific, she's been recording all manner of moving music since high school (she was only 22 when this was recorded). Here are some new songs and a beautiful piece on Chinese zither.
