Mad pop genius David Barclay phones it in (and more, see below) from Mission Beach in San Diego, CA. David is the only person to have performed on 'Phoning It In' on all three stations it's been broadcast on, and under three different band names, no less (the legendary Diskettes, La Guerre des Mitaines, and now the Endless Bummer), and he's pulled out all the stops for this one.

The performance was webcast live from David's laptop, rebroadcast illegally from another location on 88.6fm, and picked up on a receiver at the performance space, where it was then played over the phone for KDVS. In fact, it may have been even more complicated then that. And all this for some reverb, and to create the "most experimental radio...ever." Certainly the most experimental 'Phoning It In' ever. (David also took live calls and Google Chat messages.) Hopefully this set will appear on a future Endless Bummer 'physical remix' album, where the actual mediums of recordings will be altered in order to 'remix' the composition (rather than simply altering the composition itself), even if the medium in this case is digital.

Anyway, enough of my jibber-jabber. What's the music? David is a master of the songwriting craft, from classic Brill Building pop to lo-fi doo-wop to 'Modern American Calypsos for Voice and Computer' (the most recent EB album, on Life's Blood). There's nothing this guy can't do, and there's no one like the Endless Bummer. Perfect beach-pop for actual beach-going.
