Singer-songwriter-guitarist-poet-painter-dancer Mia Doi Todd phones it in from a parking lot behind the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta, GA, while on tour with Jose Gonzalez. What's almost as amazing as Mia's performance is the fact this was done outside over a cel phone and still sounds wonderful. Mia's strong, smoky voice combined with the fragile treatment the phone gives the guitar produce a nearly mystical effect. Her playing and lyrics are hypnotic, looping and elegant. I picture cursive curlicues, slowly dissipating skywriting in a bright, blue sky.
